In the fields of architectural decoration, curtain wall engineering, etc., stainless steel ring mesh is popular for its excellent corrosion resistance and aesthetics. However, facing the two common stainless steel materials of 304 and 316, many customers are confused when choosing. As a professional manufacturer, we conduct comparative analysis from the dimensions of corrosion resistance, strength, cost, etc. to help you make the best choice.
1. Corrosion resistance: 316 is better
304 stainless steel (06Cr19Ni10) contains 18% chromium + 8% nickel, which can meet the anti-corrosion needs of most daily environments. However, in coastal areas or chemical environments with high humidity and high salt fog, 316 stainless steel (06Cr17Ni12Mo2) has significantly improved resistance to chloride ion corrosion and longer service life due to the addition of 2%-3% molybdenum.
2. Mechanical strength: 304 is more cost-effective
The tensile strength (≥515MPa) and hardness of the two materials are similar, and both are suitable for making ring mesh. However, 304 stainless steel has better ductility, is not easy to crack during processing, and is suitable for complex shapes; while 316 contains molybdenum, so the welding process requirements are slightly higher and professional equipment is required.
3. Cost difference: choose as needed
The price of 316 stainless steel is 20%-30% higher than that of 304. If the project is located in an ordinary inland environment, 304 is completely sufficient; if it is in a harsh environment such as the coast or chemical plant, it is recommended to choose 316 to reduce long-term maintenance costs.
4. Recommended application scenarios
Choose 304: urban building curtain walls, interior decoration, dry climate zone projects
Choose 316: port facilities, coastal buildings, industrial area enclosures, swimming pool venues
